Huge news PieSync fans! As of today, we are now syncing 100 apps two-way and in real-time! Hooray!
We thought we’d take this momentous occasion to look back on our history and see how far we have come.
Take a look at our video below with founders Ewout and Mattias recounting the PieSync journey:
PieSync was the brainchild of Founders and friends Mattias Putman and Ewout Meyns. Mattias came up with the idea for PieSync after surfing the Highrise forums and discovering a request for a Google Contacts - Highrise two-way sync.
Seeing there were literally hundreds of upvotes for the idea, he thought he’d give it a crack.
They began PieSync in 2012 working out of Mattias’s apartment. Their mission: to sync the internet.
They began coding like crazy and made the first ever one-way sync: Google Contacts with Highrise.
In 2013 they finally cracked the two-way sync code and started syncing apps bi-directionally.
Here’s the first website:
They even came up with this nifty logo: PieSync goes retro?
In 2014 they raised $150k+ in seed funding and joined the iMinds start-up incubator.
After the roof of Mattias apartment collapsed they moved over to the offices iMinds to continue the PieSync mission.
The team slowly grew to five people. Nimble came on board as one of our first partners.
Things really took off in 2015 when they raised $1,6 million in funding from Angel and VC investors.
This boost led to a round of hires expanding the PieSync team to 15 full-time employees.
The new Dev team worked hard on a brand spanking new PieSync engine, which meant that we could sync more apps, faster.
Today we have grown to a team of 21 spread out over five different countries and, we hit 100 supported apps.
2018 will bring many new features that will make PieSync a stronger, more powerful app, and we aim to be syncing 300 supported apps by 2020.
