GETTING STARTED GUIDE: How to set up a new connection?

ALL FEATURES EXPLAINED: All our features/functionality explained in detail - no app-specifics.

RingCentral is a business communications platform delivering quality services such as voice, fax, text and conferencing. Scalable to fit any type and size of business and easily manageable make this a versatile tool working across different locations and devices!

Watch an example video on a RingCentral connection to Clio - setting it up for any other app is identical.

Below you'll find detailed information, specifically for RingCentral integrations:

Supported RingCentral Integrations

Authorize RingCentral

To connect RingCentral, we simply ask your login details, the RingCentral extension of your choice and of course, your permission.

Combined Shape

In order to use RingCentral, your user needs to have the 'Third-Party Apps Access' permission in your role. Note that this is part of the 'Custom app development and deployment' feature which is only available in the Premium 2-19 and Enterprise plans. More information here.

Default Field Mapping

Depending on the other app you're syncing with, you'll see a number of standard RingCentral fields being mapped by default. For instance, in a connection with Google Contacts, the default field mapping looks like this:

PieSync syncs the default name field(s) that come with the apps. Sometimes they have a different structure in both apps you connect. E.g. first and last names are separate in app A and joint in one field in app B. In the background, PieSync joins first and last names together from app A to B and separates them again from app B to A. Our algorithm is smart about which part it updates in app B.

Customizable Field Mapping

For now, we don't support RingCentral customizable contact fields. Therefore, you can only custom map any additional standard fields that aren't included in the default mapping yet. Bear in mind a mapping between two fields can only exist if the types of fields are compatible, and the particular compatibility will determine the direction of the mapping as well. More information on Customizable Field Mapping here.

Using just the RingCentral mobile app?

Syncing contacts into the RingCentral personal contacts directory is only required if your RingCentral device cannot read into any other database, e.g. using an office VoIP phone. If you are using just the mobile app, you can have a simpler (and cheaper) sync!

When you are using RingCentral through its mobile app exclusively, you don't need to activate the first rule that is responsible to move contacts into RingCentral.

The RC app can just read directly into your phone's database (which is Google, Outlook or iCloud). It includes these contacts in the heading "Personal contacts". By that logic, RingCentral doesn't need its own database populated through a sync with contacts - that would simply not be required.

Incoming RingCentral calls get proper caller-id treatment by scanning through your own phone's database.

Of course make sure you do ensure your phone is properly setup, so that you are certain that the RingCentral app shows the right contacts.

Somewhat confusingly, when you list RingCentral's "personal contacts" in the app, it shows not only your phone's contacts, but also includes whatever contacts you did create inside of RingCentral directly.

That's the reason you do want to keep the other sync rule activated which takes RingCentral contacts and moves them into your other app. This will not only sync all contacts that you previously had added into RingCentral to your other app, moving forward it will also do the same.

When you choose to add a contact (through the call log e.g.) in RingCentral, it gets added as a RingCentral contact only, and that's where this sync will help to move the contact also to the rest of your stack.
