Syncing drop-down fields

Jonas Rasschaert

Currently, it is not possible to synchronize two drop-down fields via our Custom mappings feature.

this also applies to radio buttons and check box fields.

Each value within a drop-down field (or a radio button/check box field) is predefined. The problem with syncing these fields, lies in the fact that PieSync is able to read the value of a dropdown field, however, we are not able to select a value from the dropdown to actually populate the field.

Furthermore, if the values of these fields differ and PieSync would sync them across, the whole syncing process would even seize to work.

A possible workaround

In some cases, you are able to create individual rules to sync each value within a drop-down field separately. This can be done through the filters and actions.

Please note that this workaround is app dependant and the dropdown fields may not be available in the rules of your connection.

What if I only need a one-way flow of information?

In this case, you can set up a custom mapping where you select the drop-down field on one side and a custom created text field on the other side.

PieSync is able to push information from a drop-down field towards a simple text field.

Steps:

  • Create a custom text field in your application.
  • Set up a new connection.

If you're already configuring your sync and the custom field hasn't popped-up yet in the dropdown, after creating it, then just press 'refresh field list' in the bottom right corner (as shown on the screenshot below)
