## About PieSync

We sync contact, lead and company information, two-way and in real time, between hundreds of different apps, such as customer relationship management (CRMs), marketing apps, customer service tools, billing software and many more. In fact, __we’re nearing the mark of 200 supported apps! __

Our two-way sync solution means that, whenever a customer’s information is added or modified in one app, the change is automatically synced to the other one.

Customer data is one of the most valuable assets of a company, so we know how important it is to keep it updated and consistent between apps. Therein lies the challenge: the average small to medium enterprise (SME) can run dozens of different applications, which together form the app stack of a company.

With different teams using different applications, it’s hard to get all these apps to work together and communicate, leading to pesky __data silos.__

## What’s new

Now we’re taking it up a notch. With this newly released function, you can sync company data just like you would sync contact data: two-way, in real time and with the possibility to apply rules and filters to customize the sync according to your workflows.

Please note, however, that __not all the apps we support will benefit from this update, since some of them don’t have a “companies” field__. This feature will work when syncing between the following apps:

## How does it work?

When setting up a new connection, there are four steps you must follow. First, choose the apps you would like to sync. The next step is authenticating the apps by logging into each of them respectively. If you need help with this, click [here](https://help.piesync.com/features/getting-started) for more information. 

If you’ve managed to sail smoothly through the first two steps, move on to the third - that’s where you can choose the type of customer data you would like to sync. Just select “companies” from the drop-down menu for both of the apps you’re syncing. 

It’s important to note that this will only work if you’re syncing company information on both apps. Trying to sync contacts with companies, for example, won’t work (stay tuned, though - we’re working hard to enable this as soon as we can).

You’ll probably manage these companies differently than you manage contacts, so make sure you take some time to configure a rule-based setup that works for you.

This sync will match up your records based on company name or email address. That’s why it’s crucial to make sure that you have entered matching names for a company in both apps.

> “If the company record in app A states "PieSync Inc" and in app B "PieSync", this will result in a duplicate record.”

However, if you have entered “piesync” in app A and “PieSync” in app B, we will still recognize both as the same entity, since our engine is case insensitive. That’s how we avoid creating duplicates.

## What about Zoho's free Mailchimp extension?{#zoho-extension}

Why wouldn’t you just use the built-in Mailchimp integration offered by ZohoCRM? 

There are some crucial differences from PieSync: 

1. The native integration only syncs daily, and sometimes daily updates are not enough. On the other hand, PieSync runs constantly, checking for updates every five minutes.
2. PieSync's filters provide a much more nuanced and customized sync. You get to say which leads or contacts in Zoho move into Mailchimp based on any Zoho attributes of your choosing. 
3. The sync provided by PieSync is __two-way__, unlike the built-in integration. You can move data into Mailchimp, but also take subscribers and move them into Zoho. You get to say how the data should sync: how custom fields should populate, which tags should sync on either side, etc.

## Let's get started!{#get-started}
 
Setting up a sync between Zoho CRM and Mailchimp is easy!

First, select two apps you want to sync with each other, in this case Zoho and Mailchimp. Then, log in to each app on the PieSync dashboard. You can choose to sync either Zoho Leads or Zoho Contacts.

For Mailchimp, you can sync one Mailchimp audience per connection slot. If you want to sync more Mailchimp lists, all you have to do is create other syncs. 

Now it’s time to [set up a two-way sync](https://www.piesync.com/mailchimp/zoho-crm/) between Zoho and Mailchimp.

This essentially means that all contacts in Zoho CRM will be synced to Mailchimp and all contacts in a certain Mailchimp list will be synced to Zoho CRM.

Because syncing __all__ contacts between the two is usually not what we're after, you can [add filters](https://www.piesync.com/blog/segment-filter-syncs/) to create some nuance.

## From Zoho into Mailchimp{#zoho-crm-mailchimp}

### Filters based on tags

As said before, being able to apply filters is a big advantage of using PieSync. For example, you can filter contacts using Zoho CRM tags. To do this, add a filter under Zoho CRM on both rules. 

In this example, if someone subscribes to a Mailchimp list via a form on your website, their information will be synced to Zoho CRM and the tag *"Newsletter"* will be added.

### Sync based on opt-in and opt-out preferences

You can also keep your email lists sparkling clean by syncing based on your subscriber's opt-in and opt-out preferences. In the following example, customers who have not opted out are subscribed to a list.
